Procedure

A mixture of 3-propanoyl-4-chloro-8-(2-methylthioethoxy)quinoline (0.093 g, 0.34 mmol) and 2-ethyl aniline (0.048 g, 0.39 mmol) in acetonitrile (1 ml) was heated to 65° C. and stirred 4.0 h. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was partitioned between methylene chloride and a saturated sodium bicarbonate solution. The organic layer was dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated. The residue was chromatographed (SiO2 ; ethyl acetate) yielding 40 mg (30%) of the desired product.
