A solution of 5-Chloro-5'-methyl-[1,2']bipyridinyl-2-one from example 10 Step 1(2.00 g, 4.53 mmol) and N-chlorosuccinimide (1.21 g, 9.06 mmol) in acetonitrile (25 mL) was heated at reflux for 4 hrs. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo and the residue chromatographed (silica gel, EtOAc: CH2Cl2 10:90 to 30:70 gradient elution) to afford the title compound.
