(2-{5-[5-(5-chloro-2-oxo-2H-[1,2']bipyridinyl-5'-ylmethyl)-imidazol-1-ylmethyl]-2-cyano-phenoxy}-ethyl)-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester from step 4 (260 mg, 0.46 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH (15 ml) and cooled to 0° C. HCl(g) was then bubbled into the solution until saturated. The reaction mixture was allowed to warm up to room temperature. The solvent was removed in vacuo to yield the final product.
