Pd/C (10%, contained 50% of water) (40 mg) was added to the solution of 6-O-acetyl-4-O-benzyl-2-deoxy-D-glucose (1.15 mmol) in ethyl alcohol (50 mL). The mixture was hydrogenated using Paar apparatus (at 45 psi of H2) for 24 hr. The reaction mixture was then filtered through Celite, evaporated to dryness, and product was purified by column chromatography (SilicaGel, 60) using chloroform:methanol as eluent. (Yield 48%).
