Reaction Steps

A mixture of 7-butoxy-4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-thiochromene-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (140 mg, 0.434 mmol) and sodium glycinate (420 mg, 4.34 mmol) in 2-methoxyethanol (10 mL) was refluxed overnight (16 h). Reaction mixture was concentrated, and crude residue was dissolved in water, acidified to pH 3 using 1 N HCl to precipitate the product. The precipitate was collected by filtration and dried to provide [(7-butoxy-4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-thiochromene-3-carbonyl)-amino]-acetic acid (120 mg, 80%). MS ESI(−) m/e: 350.21 (M−1).
