To a stirred solution of afford 2-(pyridin-4-yl)-1-oxaspiro[4.4]non-2-en-4-one (0.18 g, 0.84 mmol) in CHCl3 (10 mL) was added NBS (0.22 g, 1.25 mmol) portionwise at RT and the reaction mixture was stirred for 1 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with DCM (30 mL), washed with water (10 mL), brine (10 mL), dried over Na2SO4, filtered and then concentrated in vacuo to obtain the crude product. The crude material was purified via silica gel column chromatography to afford 3-bromo-2-(pyridin-4-yl)-1-oxaspiro[4.4]non-2-en-4-one (0.18 g, 40%) as an oil.
