To a solution of (S)-N-((S)-2-(tert-butyldimethylsilyloxy)-1-(5-fluoro-2-methoxypyridin-3-yl)ethyl)-2-methylpropane-2-sulfinamide (1.40 g, 3.46 mmol) in methanol (20 mL) was added 4N HCl/dioxane (8.65 mL, 34.6 mmol). The solution was stirred at ambient temperature for 16 hours, then concentrated and dried under vacuum to afford (S)-2-amino-2-(5-fluoro-2-methoxypyridin-3-yl)ethanol dihydrochloride as a yellow oil which was used without purification, assuming 100% yield. MS (apci) m/z=186.9 (M+H).
