Reaction Steps

A solution of compound 18b (4.5 g, 30 mmol), NBS (5.9 g, 33 mmol) and AIBN (0.5 g, 3 mmol) in CCl4 (20 mL) was refluxed overnight. The mixture was taken up in H2O (20 mL) and extracted with DCM (100 mL). The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated. The crude product was purified by CC to give the compound 18c (5.5 g, 80% yield).
