Reaction Steps

The 4-(4-aminophenoxy)-6-cyano-7-(2-methoxyethoxy)quinoline (3.354 g, 10.0 mmol) obtained in Production Example 10 was dissolved in dimethylformamide (35 ml) under a nitrogen atmosphere, and then the solution was cooled in an ice water bath, pyridine (2.43 ml, 30.0 mmol) and phenyl chloroformate (1.38 ml, 11.0 mmol) were added in that order, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. Water (40 ml) was added to the reaction solution and the precipitated crystals were filtered out. The filtrate was extracted with ethyl acetate, and the organic layer was washed with water and saturated brine and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The drying agent was filtered off, and the crystals obtained by concentration under reduced pressure were combined with the previous crystals, suspended in hexane-ethyl acetate (5:1) and stirred overnight, after which the crystals were filtered out and dried under reduced pressure to obtain the title compound (4.334 g, 9.52 mmol, 95.2%) as light brown crystals.
