To a solution of (1R,4S)-4-[(tert-butoxycarbonyl)amino]-1-(ethoxymethyl)cyclopent-2-ene-1-carboxylic acid (2.70 g, 9.46 mmol) in ethanol (69.5 mL) was added 10% palladium on carbon (350 mg). The mixture was shaken under hydrogen at 50 psi for 18 h, filtered through celite and washed with methylene chloride. The filtrate was concentrated to afford the desired product (2.87 g). MS calculated for C14H26NO5 (M+H) 288.2; found 188.2 (M+H-Boc).
