| Product | Tin phosphate (Sn3(PO4)4) | HCID 19971326 | — |
Reaction Steps
35 g of SnCl4.5H2O was dissolved in 250 ml of water and added to 250 ml of 3 M phosphoric acid with stirring. Then 0.8 M NaOH was added until a precipitate formed. The mixture was boiled and the precipitate which formed was filtered off and added to 500 ml of 6 M phosphoric acid and refluxed for 24 hours. The solid was filtered off, washed several times with distilled water and air dried overnight. The product was essentially amorphous showing only a few indistinct peaks when exposed to x-radiation. Analysis was close to the composition SnO2.P2O5.4H2O. However, the water content tended to vary from preparation to preparation.
