Procedure
A suspension of 15 g. (0.06 mole) of N-(2-chloroethyl)-N'-(4-methylthiophenyl)urea and 3 drops of Triton® X-100 surfactant, a polyoxyethylated derivative of alkylphenol, in 500 ml. of water is refluxed in 11/4 hours. The solution is cooled to room temperature and filtered. The filtrate is basified with ammonium hydroxide in order to precipitate the desired product. The product is filtered, washed with water, and air dried to yield 9 g. (70% of theory) of the desired oxazolidine, m.p. 124°-126° C.
