At 24° C., 15.0 g (0.06 mole) of the product of step A was dissolved in 50 mL glacial acetic acid and treated with 2 mL (0.064 mole) anhydrous hydrazine, added over a period of 5 minutes. The reaction was heated to 95° C. for 30 minutes. The reaction was cooled and poured into 300 mL ice water. The slurry was filtered and the cake washed with water and air dried to give 13.86 g (94%) of 5-(2,4-difluorophenyl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-pyrazole as a white solid, mp 157°-158° C.
