3.09 g (2.81 mmol) of the p-n-heptylphenyl β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-glucopyranoside peracetate obtained in Example 9 was dissolved in 81 ml of methanol, 42 ml of 0.1N sodium methoxide methanol solution was added to this at room temperature, and this was reacted for 7 hours. After the termination of the reaction, the ion-exchanging resin Amberlite IR120 (H+ -type) was added, this was agitated for 1 hour, and 1.88 g (2.78 mmol) of the desired compound was obtained in powdered form by means of filtering and concentration.
