2.91 g (2.61 mmol) of the p-n-heptyloxyphenyl β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-glucopyranoside peracetate obtained in Example 10 was dissolved in 95 ml of methanol, 52 ml of 0.1N sodium methoxide methanol solution was added to this at room temperature, and this was reacted for 11 hours. After the termination of the reaction, the ion-exchange resin Amberlite IR120 (H+ -type) was added, this was agitated for 1 hour, and 1.78 g (2.56 mmol) of the desired compound was obtained in powdered form by means of filtering and concentration.
