A solution of 3.70 g of tetramethylammonium methyltris(p-methoxyphenyl)borate in 50 ml of acetonitrile was added to a solution of 5.00 g of bis(p-tert-butylphenyl)(p-chlorobenzyl)sulfonium hexafluorophosphate in 100 ml of acetonitrile, and the resultant mixture was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. Then, 200 ml of methanol was added. The resultant precipitate of a crystal was recovered, and 100 ml of dichloromethane was added. The dichloromethane layer was washed with water, dried and concentrated to give 2.31 g of bis(p-tert-butylphenyl)(p-chlorobenzyl)sulfonium-methyltris(p-methoxyphenyl)borate.
