Trifluoroacetic acid (2.5 mL) was added to a solution of tert-butyl (3R,6S)-1-(2-methoxyethyl)-2-oxo-6-phenylazepan-3-ylcarbamate (41 mg, 0.113 mmol) in dichloromethane (5 mL). After 1 h, the solution was concentrated. Saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution was added and the mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (3×). The combined organic extracts were washed with saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. MS 263 (M+1). 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.32 (t, J=7.3 Hz, 2H), 7.25-7.22 (m, 1H), 7.18 (d, J=8.3 Hz, 2H), 3.83-3.76 (m, 3H), 3.56-3.49 (m, 3H), 3.35 (s, 3H), 3.34-3.30 (m, 1H), 2.77-2.72 (m, 1H), 2.13-2.10 (m, 1H), 2.03-1.94 (m, 2H), 1.74-1.68 (m, 1H).
