| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Methanol | HCID 887 | — |
| Reactant | Sulfuric Acid | HCID 1118 | — |
| Reactant | 2-Methyl-3-nitrobenzoic acid | HCID 16096 | — |
| Product | Methyl 2-methyl-3-nitrobenzoate | HCID 601165 | — |
Reaction Steps
30 g (165.6 mmol) of 2-methyl-3-nitrobenzoic acid is added to 150 ml of methanol, and it is refluxed for two days after 2.9 ml of concentrated sulfuric acid is added. After cooling, the crystallizate (25.55 g=79%) is suctioned off and thus incorporated into the next stage.
