A mixture of 81 g (0.5 mol) of 3-hydroxy-1-propanesulfonic acid sodium salt and 250 ml of acetic anhydride is heated on the steam bath for 64 hrs and at reflux for 2 hrs. The dark solution is cooled and the solid is filtered, washed with ether and dried to give 82.8 g of 3-acetyloxy-1-propanesulfonic acid sodium salt.
