Procedure
A mixture of 5,6-dichloro-2[(2-chloro-1,1,2-trifluoroethyl)sulfonyl]indole (0.84 g, 2.29 mmole) and sodium acetate (0.21 g, 2.52 mmole in acetic acid is treated with bromine (0.40 g, 2.52 mmole), stirred for 0.5 hour at room temperature, poured onto water and filtered. The filtercake is air-dried to afford the title product as a white solid, 0.93 g (91% yield), mp 200°-205° C., identified by IR, 1HNMR and 19FNMR spectral analyses.
