Citric Acid → N,N'-Dicyclohexylurea
Participants
| Role | Name | HCID | Charge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reactant | Citric Acid | HCID 311 | — |
| Reactant | Dicyclohexylcarbodiimide | HCID 10868 | — |
| Solvent | Tetrahydrofuran | HCID 8028 | — |
| Product | N,N'-Dicyclohexylurea | HCID 4277 | — |
Reaction Steps
Anhydrous citric acid (5 mmoles, 960 mg) and dicyclohexyl carbodiimide (10 mmoles, 2.06 g) were stirred in 30 ml anhydrous tetrahydrofuran for one hour. Dicyclohexylurea crystals formed during the ensuing dehydration reaction were removed by filtration, and the filtrate was dried in vacuo, yielding the dicitrate cyclic diester-containing solid residue.
