Procedure
4-Amino-1-(2-methylpropyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-c]quinoline-2-methanamine (1.1 g; 0.004 mol, Example 14) was added to acetic anhydride (3 mL). The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 hrs. The solution was then diluted with methanol (50 mL) and refluxed for 1 hr. The solution was concentrated and the residue made basic with aqueous sodium bicarbonate solution. The oily residue was extracted into dichloromethane. The extracts were dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated to dryness. The residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate to yield pure product m.p. 214°-218° C. Analysis: Calculated: C, 65.6; H, 6.8; N, 22.5. Found: C, 65.1; H, 6.6; N, 22.0.
