The starting material, 4-(1-methoxymethyl-2-phenoxy-ethoxy)-2-trifluoromethyl-benzonitrile, which is the product of Example 27, (0.5 g, 1.4 mmol) was dissolved in 10 ml of dry CH2Cl2, it was cooled to −78° C. before addition of BBr3 (4.3 ml of 1.0M solution in CH2Cl2). After 2 hours, the reaction mixture was gradually warmed up to room temperature; the reaction was quenched with 45 ml of saturated NaHCO3, extracted with CHCl3 (3×20 ml). Purification: Silica Gel
