At 25° C., a mixture of 1 g 5-isopropenyl-4,8-dimethylbicyclo[3.3.1]non-7-en-2-one (4.9 mmol) and 50 mg 10% Pd/C in 10 ml MeOH was stirred under 10 bar of H2 for 5 h. Filtration (Celite®), concentration, and FC (SiO2, hexane/Et2O 100:7) gave 0.22 g (22%) of compound 9. The boiling point of the end product is 75° C. at 0.07 torr (0.09 mbar).
