A solution of KOH (5 g) in water (50 ml) was added to 3-(tetrahydropyran-2-yloxy)pyrrolidine-1-carbaldehyde. The mixture was heated at 50° C. for approximately one hour, after which time GC analysis showed the reaction was complete. After cooling to room temperature, the product was extracted with DCM (3×50 ml). The organic phase was dried over MgSO4 and concentrated. The title compound was obtained in 100% yield, (8.5 g). GC analysis, RT 10.4 min, 96.6% purity. δH (CDCl3) 4.60-4.70 (1H, m), 4.35-4.45 (1H, m), 3.80-3.95 (1H, m), 3.40-3.60 (1H, m), 2.90-3.25 (4H, m), 1.40-2.05 (8H, m).
