Reaction Steps

3N NaOH (2 mL) was added to a solution of 9 (302 mg, 1.3 mmol) in methanol (20 mL) and the reaction mixture was stirred for 48 h at room temperature. Solvent was evaporated and water (20 mL) was added. The solution was neutralized to pH 2 using 20% HCl and the precipitate was filtered and washed with water. 10 was obtained as a grey powder (231 mg, 81% yield), mp: >300° C. 1 H NMR (DMSO-d6, ppm): 13.30 (s, 1 H, COOH), 10.01 (s, 1 H, NH), 8.16-8.15 (d, 1 H, J=1.9 Hz, Ar--H), 7.65-7.60 (m, 2 H, Ar--H), 7.53-7.50 (dd, 2 H, J=1.6, 8.4 Hz, Ar--H), 2.07 (s, 3 H, CH3CO), Anal.
