By following Step H of Example 1, but substituting the product of Step A of this example for the ester of Step G of Example 1, a mixture was obtained. After recrystallization from diethyl ether, 4-(3-(4-acetyl-3-hydroxy-2-propylphenoxy)-2-hydroxypropylsulfonyl)-2-fluorobenzeneacetic acid, mp 119°-120° C., was obtained. The mother liquors were purified by chromatography on silica gel to yield 4-(3-(4-acetyl-3-hydroxy-2-propylphenoxy)-1-propenyl-sulfonyl)-2-fluoro-benzene acetic acid, mp 249°-251° C.
