{2-[2-(3,5-dimethylphenyl)-5-nitro-1H-indol-3-yl]-ethyl}-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (0.4 g) was dissolved in methanol (25 mL) and platinum (IV) oxide (40 mg) added. The mixture was placed on a Parr hydrogenation apparatus and hydrogenated at 45psi for 4 h; by this time the starting material had been consumed and converted into one product. The catalyst was removed by filtration and the filtrates evaporated under reduced pressure using a rotary evaporator and the final traces of solvent removed by using a high vacuum overnight. The amine (338 mg) was obtained as a powder.
