Reaction Steps
A solution of lithium aluminium hydride (1.04 ml, 1M in tetrahydrofuran, 1.04 mmol) was added dropwise to a stirred solution of methyl 2-(triphenylmethyl)-1, 2,3-triazole-4-carboxylate (from step (a), 500 mg, 1.38 mmol) in anhydrous tetrahydrofuran (30 ml) at 0° C. under nitrogen. The mixture was stirred for 1 hour at 0° C. and then water (2 ml), 15% aqueous sodium hydroxide (4 ml) and then more water (4 ml) were added. The resulting suspension was filtered through Arbocel filter aid and the filtrate was dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was partitioned between dichloromethane (150 ml) and water (150 ml). The dichloromethane layer was washed with water (600 ml) and then dried (MgSO4) and concentrated under reduced pressure to leave the title compound as a white solid (401 mg, 85%).
