Reaction Steps
A solution of maleic acid (4.7 g) in ethyl acetate (200 ml) was added to a solution of (S)-5,11-dihydro-5-[1-(4-methoxyphenethyl)-2-pyrrolidinylmethyl]dibenzo[b,e][1,4]thiazepine (see Examples 1 and 6) (17.3 g) in ethyl acetate (100 ml) and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 hours. The resulting precipitate was collected, dried and recrystallised from ethyl acetate/methanol to give the title compound as colourless crystals, (14.0 g, 64%), m.p. 153°-154° C., [α]58925 -39.7° (c=0.755 in ethanol).
