182 g (0.7S7 mol) of ethyl N-allyl-N-(1,1-dimethoxyprop -2-yl)-carbamate in 1.5 1 of water are heated under reflux for three hours with 80 ml of formic acid. The mixture is saturated with sodium chloride, the organic phase is separated off and the aqueous phase is extracted twice with 500 ml of methylene chloride each time. The organic solutions are washed with saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate solution until neutral, dried over magnesium sulphate and concentrated, and the residue is distilled.
