Procedure

A zinc chloride solution (7.6 mM) in sterile saline is prepared by dissolving 1.043 gm of high purity zinc chloride (Aldrich Chemical Co., Inc.) in one liter of saline, autoclaving and cooling to room temperature. 10 ml of the zinc chloride sterile solution is added to a vial of 500 mg of Desferal, the mixture is shaken until the contents are completely dissolved and used for either a bolus or continuous injection.
