Reaction Steps
1-(2-Bromo-3-benzofurylmethyl)-3-(3-methoxyphenyl) piperidine hydrochloride (1) (0.65 g) in 48% hydrobromic acid (200 ml) was heated at 110°-115° C. for 1.5 hours under nitrogen, and evaporated to dryness in vacuo. The residue crystallised from ethanol-ether to afford 3-[1-(2-bromo-3-benzofurylmethyl)-3-piperidyl]phenol hydrobromide (11) (0.6 g), m.p. 134°-140° C. (Found: M+ 385.0665. C20H20NO2Br requires M 385.0677).
