To a solution of 4.66 ml of 85% thiophosgene in 200 ml of ethyl ether, cooled to -76° is added, while stirring and under nitrogen, a solution of 7 g of 1-ethoxycarbonyl-4-trimethylsilylpiperazine in 35 ml of ethyl ether over a period of 20 minutes. The mixture is allowed to warm up to room temperature overnight. The suspension is filtered and the filtrate is evaporated to dryness. The residue is crystallized from methylene chloridehexane to give 4-ethoxycarbonyl-1-piperazinylthiocarbonyl chloride, m.p. 107°-111°.
