Procedure

2.5 g of crude 2-pentyl-6-propenyl-1,3-benzodioxan are dissolved in 75 ml of ethanol and hydrogenated with 0.25 g of palladium/carbon (5% by weight) at room temperature until the hydrogen uptake comes to a standstill. The mixture is filtered and concentrated. The crude product is purified by chromatography on a column of 32 g of basic aluminium oxide with hexane/ether (9:1). Pure 2-pentyl-6-propyl-1,3-benzodioxan is obtained as a colorless oil.
