Reaction Steps

A suspension of 11.35 g of pyridinium chlorochromate in 80 ml of dichloromethane was treated dropwise with a solution of 6.06 g of (trans-4-(4-fluorophenyl)cyclohexyl]methanol in 18 ml of diethyl ether. The reaction mixture was stirred for 4 hours, then diluted with 50 ml of diethyl ether, decanted off from the dark residue and filtered. Concentration of the filtrate gave 4.86 g of trans-4-(4-fluorophenyl)cyclohexanecarboxaldehyde as a yellowish oil which solidified at room temperature; m.p. <30° C.
