3'-Methanesulphonyl-2-nitrobiphenyl (14 g) was heated at 90°-95° C. for 10 hours with hydrated sodium sulphide (51 g) and ethanol (400 ml) to give 2-amino-3'-methanesulphonylbiphenyl (m.p. 114°-115° C.).
