Procedure
In a second process variant 30 g of 3-(3-hydroxypropyl)-2-thioxo-2,3-dihydroquinazoline-4(1H)-one of Formula VI, wherein R1 and R2 are both H, and n is 2, is heated with a mixture of 30 ml glacial acetic acid and 12 ml concentrated sulfuric acid. After the addition of about 330 ml water, refluxing is continued for 15 hours. The product is worked up and purified as in the preceding process variant. The yield of almost TLC-pure crude product is 85%, with a M.P. of 165° C.-167° C. (1-propanol).
