To a solution of (R)-3,4-dihydro-6-formyl-2-(4-hydroxybenzyl)-2H-benzopyran (1.8 g, 6.7 mmol) in DMF (10 ml) at 0° C. was added potassium tertbutoxide (0.83 g, 7.4 mmol). After 30 minutes m-fluorobenzyl bromide (0.91 ml, 7.4 mmol) was added and the resulting slurry was warmed to room temperature and stirred for 2 hours. Water was added and the precipitate was collected, washed with water and air dried (2.5 g).
