Procedure

To a solution of N-{4-(4-(4-methoxyphenoxy)-2,6-dimethylphenyl)thiazol-2-yl}acetamide (2-2, 465 mg, 1.3 mmol) in acetic acid (10.2 mL) was added bromine (0.060 mL, 1.3 mmol) dropwisely. The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 4.0 h. The solution was added with water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over anhydrous MgSO4(s), and concentrated under reduced pressure to give N-{5-bromo-4-(4-(4-methoxyphenoxy)-2,6-dimethylphenyl)thiazol-2-yl}acetamide (2-3, 547 mg) as white solids, which was used directly for the next step without further purification.
