Procedure

A mixture of 2-bromo-1-{4-((5-methoxypyridin-2-yl)oxy)-2,6-dimethylphenyl}ethanone (18-3, 1.89 g, 5.40 mmol) and thiourea (0.47 g, 6.18 mmol) in 95% EtOH (20.0 mL) was heated at reflux for 2.0 h. The solution was concentrated and added with water (10 mL) and saturated aqueous Na2CO3 (1.0 mL). The resultant precipitate was filtered and washed with hot water. The solids were filtered and dried under vacuum to give 4-{4-((5-methoxypyridin-2-yl)oxy)-2,6-dimethylphenyl}thiazol-2-amine (18-4, 0.10 g) as yellow solids in 5.7% yield: 1H NMR (500 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.60 (m, 1 H), 7.30 (m, 1 H), 6.89 (m, 1 H), 6.77 (s, 2 H), 6.25 (s, 1 H), 3.83 (s, 3 H), 2.17 (s, 6 H).
