Procedure

A reaction mixture containing 2-bromo-1-(4-(4-methoxyphenylsulfonyl)-2,6 dimethylphenyl)ethanone (1.33 g, 3.4 mmol, 1.0 equiv) and thiourea (254.8 mg, 3.4 mmol, 1.0 equiv) in EtOH (5.0 mL) was heated at reflux for 1.0 h. The solution was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was re-dissolved in EtOAc (50 mL). The solution was washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO 3 (30 mL), dried over MgSO4, and concentrated under reduced pressure. The resultant solids were washed with hexanes to give 4-(4-(4-methoxyphenylsulfonyl)-2,6-dimethylphenyl)thiazol-2-amine (839.2 mg, 2.2 mmol) as yellow solids in 65% yield: 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 500 MHz) δ 7.89 (d, J=8.9 Hz, 2 H), 7.61 (s, 2 H), 7.13 (d, J=8.9 Hz, 2 H), 6.95 (brs, 2 H), 6.43 (s, 1 H), 3.83 (s, 3 H), 2.16 (s, 6 H); ESI-MS: m/z 375.6 (M+H)+.
