Procedure
A solution of tert-Butyl (2-{[2-(3-cyano-4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]amino}ethyl)carbamate (0.9 g, 3.1 mmol) and TEA (0.4 g, 3.7 mmol) in 10 mL of anhydrous DCM was added chloroacetyl chloride (0.4 g, 3.7 mmol) dropwise at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h, and then the solvent was evaporated. The residue was partitioned between EtOAc and water. The organic layer was dried and evaporated. The residue was purified with prep-TLC to give tert-Butyl (2-{(chloroacetyl) [2-(3-cyano-4-fluorophenyl)ethyl]amino}ethyl)carbamate.
