A mixture of 1-[2-(4-nitrophenyl)ethyl]piperazin-2-one hydrochloride (40 mg, 0.14 mmol) and 1-(2-bromoethyl)-4-nitrobenzene (39 mg, 0.17 mmol) was heated to 60° C. with triethylamine (0.078 mL, 0.56 mmol) for 16 hours. LC showed complete reaction at that point. The desired product was purified by reverse phase HPLC (AcCN-Water with 0.1% TFA). LC-MS (IE, m/z): 399 [M+1]+.
