5N NaOH (50 mmol) was added to a solution of 2-(2-hydroxyacetyl)-N-methylhydrazinecarbimidothioic acid (8.15 g, 50 mmol) in EtOH, and then the mixture was stirred for 4 hr at 60° C. The mixture was cooled in an ice bath and the pH was adjusted to ˜5-6 with concentrated HCl. The precipitated solid was filtered, washed with EtOH, and dried under vacuum to give the title compound. Yield: 83%. 1H NMR (DMSO-d6, 400 MHz) δ: 5.64 (s, 1H), 4.46 (s, 2H), 3.44 (s, 3H).
