3-(6-Bromo-2-methyl-1H-indol-3-ylsulfanyl)-benzoic acid methyl ester (0.19 g, 0.5 mmol) and copper(I) cyanide (0.090 g, 1.0 mmol) were combined in DMSO (10 mL) in a sealed reaction vessel and stirred at 130° C. for overnight. The resulting mixture was cooled to room temperature, and subjected to standard aqueous workup. The crude residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (10-100% EtOAc in hexanes) to afford the title compound.
