Prepared as in Example 2a from 2-aminobenzonitrile and ethyl 3-oxo-3-phenylpropanoate as a yellow solid (45%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 0.72 (t, J=8.0 Hz, 3H), 3.92 (q, J=8.0 Hz, 2H), 7.44 (m, 5H), 7.50 (m, 1H), 7.61 (bs, 2H), 7.73 (m, 1H), 7.83 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H), 8.37 (d, J=8.0 Hz, 1H). MS 293 (MH+).
