Reaction Steps

Add LiOH monohydrate (0.10 g, 2.40 mmol) to a suspension of 3-[4-(4-cyano-phenyl)-[1,2,3]triazol-1-ylmethyl]-benzoic acid methyl ester (0.50 g, 1.60 mmol) in 15 mL of a 4:1 MeOH-water mixture and stir at room temperature for 3 days. Concentrate the mixture to remove most of the MeOH, dilute with additional H2O and neutralize by the addition of 1N aqueous HCl. Isolate the resulting solid by filtration and dry to afford 0.45 g, 94% yield of 3-[4-(4-Cyano-phenyl)-[1,2,3]triazol-1-ylmethyl]-benzoic acid.
