(E)-4-Methyl-5-(4-methylcyclohexyl)pent-4-enal (2.94 g; 15.13 mmol) was hydrogenated in cyclohexane (20 ml) at 20 bar and room temperature in the presence of 5% w/w palladium on charcoal (0.15 g). The product was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (eluent: heptanes/ethyl acetate 15:1) followed by bulb-to-bulb distillation (60° C./0.01 mbar).
