To a solution of 6-methoxy-5-methylbenzo[d]thiazol-2-amine (5A) (1.0 g, 5.15 mmol) in H2SO4 at 0° C., was added NBS (550 mg, 3.07 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 2 h. Then the reaction mixture was poured to ice-water, neutralized by 50% KOH solution to pH about 3. The precipitation was collected, washed by water and dried over high vacuum. LCMS-ESI+: calc'd for C9H9BrN2OS: 273.0 (M+H+). Found: 273.0 (M+H+).
